Kinepolis

The Kinepolis complex opened its doors in the summer of 2006 along the Expressway where the camping site 'Sint Michiels' used to be. A few years back many had already given up hope to have a modern cinema complex in Bruges. Negotiations have taken years.

The group has establishments in all of Belgium, like Kortrijk, Ghent and of course in Europe. In the wake of the announced coming of the complex several city movie theatres shut down. Only one of these little fish managed to survive, the Liberty in the Kuiperstraat in a historical building. But this year the owner was left no other option but to come up with a different future for the building. But we still have one other city movietheatre left, the Lumiere, though it only offers alternative films.

Kinepolis innovated in its establishment in Bruges. For the first time, it was possible to buy numbered seats online, a service that soon became very popular. The complex counts with 15 rooms. The two big rooms serve next to showing premieres also as congress room. The two smallest are reserved for alternative films.

The accessibility was also thoroughly thought of. Who comes by car never has difficulty: the complex has an enormous carparking and is easily accessible. By bycicle it is only a 7-minute ride from the city centre. But going on foot is a little bit more difficult. That's why there are free public busses. These special Kinepolis busses shuttle between the station and the complex every friday -saturday -and sunday-evening.
