Houtkaai
The Houtkaai is located along the northern ringroad of the city. Before 2002 it was a place of degradation, marked with vacancy and delapidating warehouses. Several construction companies jumped on it and with might and main this area was transformed into a modern living area in no time.
The warehouses and vacant buildings were transformed into appartment blocks with luxurious lofts, other delapidated buildinds were torn down to make way for the construction of modern houses. There was also thought of a block of social housing. The social character in Bruges is everywhere.
A few works of art were placed along the waterside, as well as cycling paths. Again with the goal of closing the green ring around Bruges, so fanatic cyclists and pedestrians would able to cycle are walk all around the egg-shaped city centre in a joyful way.
